A workspace is a home. A team does the work.

Keep access, participation and project scope understandable by giving each one a clear place.

Workspace: people and shared administration

The workspace contains the people and teams using Chessboard together. Workspace-level administration includes invitations, member roles and connections.

Use the workspace selector to change which organization you are working in. Do not assume a teammate can access another workspace because they can access yours.

Team: participants and working practices

A team is a group of people inside the workspace. A new workspace creates a Default team so you can begin without setting up a hierarchy.

Team participation, planning approvers, capacity and workflow settings belong to the team. The team selector changes that context without creating a different workspace.

An open team and a private team have different visibility rules. Workspace membership does not automatically make someone a participant in every team.

Project: an outcome and its context

A project groups related work, its brief and milestones. Choose which teams participate in the project.

Tasks have project context, while a team's sprint can include work across its participating projects. Filtering a sprint to one project changes the displayed work, not the underlying team's capacity or commitment.

A practical starting structure

  • One workspace for your organization.
  • Keep Default until you have a reason to name separate teams.
  • One project for a bounded outcome, rather than one project for every person.
  • Invite people to the workspace, then add the right participants to the team.
  • Choose a team lead and planning approver before making sprint commitments.

If someone cannot find the work

Check the active workspace and team first. Then check workspace membership, team participation, private-team visibility and whether the project includes that team.

An invitation accepted under the wrong signed-in email is not proof of recipient access. Use the email the teammate was invited with and switch accounts when necessary.
